A public notice released by the Department of Industrial Engineering of Tsinghua University has recently gone viral online for the expulsion of an international student from the US.
Although the notice was published on the university's official website in December last year, news outlets have only recently picked it up and shared it across social media where each post received a massive attention from netizens.
Hamilton, a male international student who was born in 1998, was enrolled as an undergraduate student in Class 02 of the school's Department of Industrial Engineering.
He applied for a 6-month leave of absence in March 2023 and was expected to resume his studies in the autumn semester of 2023. However, he failed to report to school after that period and staff of the Department of Industrial Engineering were not able to contact him.
After repeatedly failing to establish contact with Hamilton, the school decided to expel him in accordance with the Article 39(5) of the Regulations on the Management of Undergraduate Student Status of Tsinghua University.
The notice also mentioned that if the student has any objections to the decision, he may submit a written or oral statement to appeal the decision within five working days from the date of receiving the notice.
